Keyboard shortcuts
Look up editing and navigation keys for your platform.
1. How to read this page
These shortcuts are available in Tabularia, shown with the modifier keys for your platform. On phones and tablets, shortcuts are external-keyboard helpers. You can also use the touch controls.
The tables list Tabularia commands. Notes below each group explain ordinary keyboard actions, such as moving the caret, extending a selection, and inserting tabs.
There is no need to learn the list by heart. Hover over a toolbar or header control that has a shortcut, and its tooltip names the keys for your computer.
2. Focus Mode

Focus Mode hides both bars and all four panels, then restores your previous arrangement. The individual shortcuts toggle one surface at a time.
Opening a panel leaves Focus Mode. On touch devices, use the center of the Compass for the same action.

Arrow keys move the caret; Shift extends selection. Alt + Left or Right moves by word. Command or Control + Up or Down moves to the start or end; Left or Right moves to a line edge. Home, End, Page Up, and Page Down work normally.
Tab at the start of a nonempty body paragraph adds an indent. Backspace removes indentation before joining paragraphs. Elsewhere, Tab inserts a character using half-inch stops. On a title page, Tab or Return moves to the next line, then into the body.
With Find closed, Escape first closes a peeked passage, then clears selection. Otherwise it lets Tab move focus out of the Canvas. Control + Y also redoes.
On Mac, Option combinations type special characters, including dashes and currency signs. These are macOS shortcuts; Windows and Linux Alt combinations are different.

- → or ↓
- Accept the change on screen
- Enter or A
- Reject the change on screen
- Delete, Backspace, or R
- Back to the text
- Escape
These keys work while the merge panel or bar has focus. Opening or resuming a merge focuses it unless you are typing. Enter on a focused button presses that button. Bulk decisions have no shortcut and require confirmation; Undo reverses a bulk decision.

9. Anchors
- Toggle Anchor Insert Mode
- Keyboard shortcut
Anchor Insert Mode is available only with a Custom Timeline open in the Timelines tab. The shortcut has no effect elsewhere.
10. Timeline Drawer

- Shift + F10 or the Menu key
- Delete the focused item
- Delete or Backspace
- Step the drawer back
- Command + [ on a Mac, Alt + Left elsewhere
- Step the drawer forward
- Command + ] on a Mac, Alt + Right elsewhere
- Pan the focused overview span

- Shift + Left or Right
The Back and Forward keys, and a mouse's side buttons, step the drawer only while you are working in it and it has a step to take. In a text field they keep their usual meaning.
A Point or Range Anchor is deleted at once. An Outline item asks first when writing inside it would go too.
