Tabularia version history.

A day-by-day record of public-facing Tabularia changes.

Tabularia updates · v1.3.0

Text now wraps the way it does in other word processors. A word no longer jumps between lines while you type or delete, centered lines stay put when you add a space, and a justified word that wraps stays wrapped. This update also fixes several smaller problems in Drafts, Word import and export, and published pages.

Detailed changes 12
  • Editing near the start of a line reflows the paragraph right away. A word that now fits on the line above moves up on the same keystroke, instead of a second later.
  • Centered lines no longer shift when you type a space at the end or press Return. A line that ends in a space is centered by its words.
  • In Justify, a word that wraps while you type it stays on the next line when you start the next word. The last line of a paragraph can close up its spaces slightly to fit, as the lines above it do.
  • The Alignment button names your choice in full: Align Left, Align Center, or Align Right.
  • On your first visit, typing straight into a new Project no longer sends the rest of your sentence into the Project title.
  • Typing over a selected Field, such as the author name on a title page, keeps every letter in the Field.
  • The caret shows correctly beside an Outline Anchor, and an Outline heading holds still while you type on its line.
  • Word exports open normally in Word, not in Compatibility Mode. The Word import review now reports tracked changes it accepted.
  • Drafts: row details wrap cleanly on a narrow panel, a Markup merge stays open while its source has proposals waiting, and a returned review closes once from the phone toolbar.
  • Published pages keep a picture where you placed it in Continuous layout, and wrap text on the side the page shows.
  • When your device goes offline, Studio says so instead of blaming the server.
  • Product update emails are never sent to an address that bounced, complained, or unsubscribed.

Tabularia updates · v1.2.2

Links to the pricing page now show the current offer when you share them. The preview picture had still said the app was free.

Detailed changes 1
  • A link to the pricing page, shared on social media or in a message, now shows "Buy once, or try free for 14 days" instead of the old free-app line.

Tabularia updates · v1.2.1 · v1.2.0

Tabularia now writes screenplays as well as books. A Project can be a script, with Final Draft import and export, scene numbers, Script Reports, and keyboard completion for character names and scene headings. The Timeline Drawer has been reworked around a header that shows and edits the selected item, typing on phones and tablets is much steadier, and Tabularia now asks before you leave it by accident. Version 1.2.1 follows the same day with Timeline Drawer Playhead fixes, a guard against duplicate opening Chapters, and assistants that can read a long Manuscript to its end.

Detailed changes 14
  • Version 1.2.1. The Playhead now drags from anywhere along it, including where it crosses the Outline lane, and clicking a Book, Chapter, or Scene in Structural view leaves the Playhead on that item's diamond instead of halfway before it. A Book can no longer end up with a second Introduction, Prologue, or Epilogue when Book Matter is turned on while the Outline is still catching up. A connected assistant now reads a long Manuscript to its end, a page at a time, instead of stopping partway.
  • Screenplays. A Project can now be a script. Return and Tab move between Scene Heading, Action, Character, Dialogue, and the other elements the way screenwriters expect, and character names and INT./EXT. scene headings complete from the keyboard. Speeches stay together across page breaks, with the breaks marked, and Dual Dialogue keeps its two columns however the page is laid out.
  • Final Draft and Fountain. Scripts import from and export to Final Draft, including Dual Dialogue, Shots, and centered text. Fountain now carries every screenplay element both ways, and an import tells you anything it had to leave behind.
  • Scene numbers and Script Reports. Turn on scene numbers for a script and they follow every Scene Heading. Script Reports list each scene with its length in eighths of a page, along with locations, speaking characters, and a rough running time. A script dims Book Matter and Chapter Openings rather than hiding them, and a Scene whose heading also opens an Act stays in the Outline.
  • Phones and tablets. Typing over a selection replaces it cleanly and starts a sentence with a capital, and a Scene marker at the start of the selection stays put. Keyboard suggestions and Gboard corrections replace the whole word, Android capitalizes a fresh line, the iOS space-bar trackpad moves the caret, delete at the start of a line works, and the caret never lands in the page margin. The keyboard stays up after a Paste from the touch menu.
  • Leaving Tabularia. Tabularia now asks before Back, closing the tab, or reloading takes you away from an open Project, so a stray gesture does not take you out mid-sentence. Turn it off with Ask Before Leaving Tabularia in the document menu. iOS Safari does not show the question.
  • Timeline Drawer. The selected item now lives in the Drawer's header, with Previous, Next, Reveal, and Edit beside it and its comment written right there. Right-click an item, or press Delete, for its commands. Zoom from the overview strip and double-click it to see the whole Manuscript; the browser's Back button steps the Drawer back through zooms and trips to items, and after a Reveal it offers to take you back to where you were. Clicking a cluster goes to its first item, dragging the Playhead lights up the item under it, compact lanes take one row, and Custom Timeline rows are numbered to match the page, and an Anchor keeps its comment when it is moved.
  • Outline and structure. An Act's Outline range no longer shows a stray closing ACT flag, and the Outline has its own search placeholder.
  • Merging and Review. A paused merge counts its differences correctly after a reload, and the merge bar fits its column.
  • Headers and PDFs. Custom header text stays open when it starts with a field, and exported PDFs hyphenate from the first page.
  • Versions. Choosing a release on your account page takes effect at once and holds when you reload.
  • Assistants and Teams. A connected assistant can now find and work on Team Manuscripts your account has been given access to.
  • Sign-in and menus. A sign-in or sign-up form left open too long sends you back to the same page instead of an error, the account menu stays open when you open its help, and dialogs that hand over to one another no longer flash the Studio between them.
  • Archives. Restoring a Project from an archive keeps its starter's named styles and no longer shows a Review access warning.

October 17, 2026

Tabularia updates · v1.1.1 · v1.1.0 · v1.0.0 · v0.71.0

Tabularia 1.0 leaves beta. It now comes as a Local plan you buy once, with optional yearly updates, or a Cloud plan by subscription, and every new account starts with a 14-day evaluation. Every account can export a complete project archive, long books respond faster at a million words, and Print from the Export panel no longer freezes on a long illustrated book. Tabularia's emails now read clearly in dark mode, and the document menu shows how long your evaluation has left.

Detailed changes 14
  • Plans. The Local plan is a one-time purchase that includes a year of updates, with an optional yearly renewal; the Cloud plan adds backup, sync, sharing, and publishing by subscription. New accounts start with a 14-day evaluation, and accounts made before today keep their access. Your account page shows the plan you actually hold and offers only what you can buy.
  • When a plan ends, Tabularia still opens. Your own projects open read-only, so you can read, search, and export them, and buying or resubscribing makes them editable again. Shares other writers sent you keep working as their plan allows, and a Cloud plan that misses a payment keeps working for seven days while it is fixed. Read-only now holds everywhere: comments, spelling fixes, pictures, and Undo all ask you to renew instead of changing the page. Exports from a shared or Team project follow its owner's plan, not yours.
  • Every signed-in account can export a complete project archive, on any plan, and folder backups now hold the whole project.
  • Versions. Every minor and major release is now a checkpoint you can stay on. Your account page lists the versions your plan covers and lets you choose one, online or off. Once your updates end, you keep getting fixes for the last version they covered.
  • Print from the Export panel lays a long book out in the background, so a full-length illustrated novel prints without the tab becoming unresponsive.
  • Long books. Typing, Return, and Backspace stay quick at a million words, and switching a Scoped Draft, turning Markup on or off, or moving between Books touches only what changed. Entire Series now counts the whole series.
  • Pictures. A cover or picture placed above a Chapter opening stays where you put it instead of drifting down past the page's footer after the book finishes loading. Illustrated books publish as reader pages.
  • Importing. Plain-text books read headings such as LETTER I or STAVE ONE as Chapters, named volumes as Books, and leave a contents list at the front out. The loading animation now shows while a newly imported book opens.
  • Assistants. A connected assistant can rename and move Anchors and place a story structure's beats where the prose reaches them. Your account page lists each connected AI app once, and disconnecting it ends all of its access.
  • Accounts and sign-in. Deleting an account takes its published pages, Shares, and grants down with it, and its publication handle stays reserved for two years. The billing portal asks for a recent sign-in, and sign-in pages show clearer messages.
  • Email and menus. Tabularia's emails now read clearly in dark-mode mail apps, with the wordmark set in white. The document menu keeps Upgrade, Pricing, and Help & Info at its foot, and shows how long your evaluation has left.
  • Merging and Timelines. Merging a Draft asks what to do about a comment written on the original while you merge. A Timeline loaded from storage leaves out the markers of hidden Anchors and says which Draft holds them, and the minimap opens each manuscript at its own start.
  • Upgrading. Every Upgrade to Cloud in Tabularia, and Choose plan on your account page, now opens the pricing page, where you compare the plans and choose personal or business use before checkout. The History panel's Cloud notice sits at the foot of the panel.
  • Importing a book now brings in its cover artwork and a Frontispiece page.

October 15, 2026

Tabularia updates · v0.70.0

Pictures can now fill a Frontispiece page, stay beside their paragraph across page breaks, and print where the Canvas shows them. Headers and footers have one editor, with a choice per slot, bold, italic, and color, and a live preview. A Book can name its print service, and the Canvas warns where a page breaks that service's rules. Every number field now steps with the arrow keys and stays within its range.

Detailed changes 9
  • Pictures. A Frontispiece picture can fill its page, with a Caption switch on its bar and the caption set at the foot. A picture seated beside a paragraph stays beside it across page breaks and changes to page size, margins, or mirrored pages, and keeps clear of running heads and the footnote band. Select a picture at a cut edge and the print bleed shows beside it. PDF and Print put each picture where the Canvas shows it.
  • Headers and footers. One editor now sets every header and footer, with a choice per slot, Applies to and per-part overrides, and bold, italic, rules, and color for each slot. The preview shows Chapter numbers, Scenes, and headings as they will print. Click a header to type in it, and drag a selected slot along the ruler.
  • Print. A Book can name its print service; the print guides then draw the trim, the bleed, and the safe line on tablets and desktops, and the Canvas warns about a page that breaks the service's rules. Print files follow the service's rules without changing the Book, Print keeps a Book's Frontispiece page, and a Book set for facing pages prints its left and right pages as such.
  • PDF export sets drop caps in their frames and ornaments, Chapter openings in their own face, struck-through words, and the same line spacing the Canvas shows.
  • Footnotes. A note that fits on a page now moves to the next page whole, along with the line that refers to it, instead of being split. Only a note taller than a page still continues.
  • A Chapter opening can now print no lines at all, keeping its title for the Contents, the Outline, and the running heads.
  • Every number field in the Studio now steps with the arrow keys, holds to its range, and can be cleared. Settings changes take effect as you make them, and page format and Book design changes are Undo steps. Line and paragraph numbers count within each Book and leave title and other matter pages unnumbered.
  • Search finds word forms, alternatives, and words near each other. The toolbar's Anchor button now spans a selection.
  • Tablets and browsers. A finger can take hold of Anchors and selection handles. On an iPad the install steps say iPadOS, and WebKit browsers that do not report a Safari version are judged by what they support. The offline Studio opens your remembered account, holds a sign-out until it reconnects, and resumes syncing in place.

Tabularia updates · v0.69.0 · v0.68.6 · v0.68.5 · v0.68.4 · v0.68.3 · v0.68.2 · v0.68.1 · v0.68.0 · v0.67.0 · v0.66.2 · v0.66.1 · v0.66.0 · v0.65.4 · v0.65.3 · v0.65.2 · v0.65.1 · v0.65.0

Suggestions now belong to Drafts and never mark up your main text, and an assistant connected to Tabularia can set up a Book's details, Matter pages, Chapters, chapter openings, and Block Styles. An assistant can also draw your book its own drop caps and ornaments.

Detailed changes 5
  • Suggestions belong to Drafts. Every suggested change now belongs to the Draft it was made in and shows only while that Draft is on, so your main text never carries markup. Suggestions that were sitting on your main text are gathered into a new Draft, Earlier suggestions, the first time you open each Project.
  • An assistant connected to Tabularia can now set up a Book: its title, subtitle, byline, description, dedication, copyright details, ISBNs, series, and language; which Matter pages it carries; its Chapters; how chapters open; and its Block Styles. It takes a Snapshot first, so every change can be undone from History.
  • An assistant can now make a Draft and write in it straight away, without Tabularia open, and moving a Chapter it asked for keeps every paragraph in place. A Manuscript an assistant wrote in from the cloud now opens in Tabularia. ChatGPT can now add a picture it made to your Images. Tabularia's connector is also listed in the official MCP Registry, so assistants that read it can find Tabularia by name. Gemini and Grok can now connect to Tabularia too.
  • When a Project you choose from Files cannot open, Tabularia now says why and keeps you where you were, instead of quietly showing the last Project you had open.
  • Custom decorations. Ask a connected assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT to draw a drop cap frame or an ornament, and it appears under Custom in your decoration library, where it works like any other: on the page, in print, in PDF, and on published pages. PDF exports also now place every ornament where the page shows it.

Tabularia updates · v0.64.0 · v0.63.3 · v0.63.2 · v0.63.1 · v0.63.0 · v0.62.0 · v0.61.0

The Image settings dialog gives most of its room to the picture, and Visual Identity gathers its picture commands beside the artwork. Comments and markers stay on their words while you edit a long Manuscript, a phone counts each Book's real pages, and the installed app opens offline on iPhone again. Title pages show every line you check together, and the assistant connector comes as a Claude plugin with new writing skills.

Detailed changes 11
  • Every line you check for a title page in Book Matter now stands on the page together, in order: series name, Book number, title, subtitle, author, and translator. A subtitle checked on an older title page comes back. Each title page and its Book carry one Outline marker, on the page's first line, and the Outline lists a Book above the matter pages it holds.
  • Fields are added and removed only from Book Matter's Fields on the page checkboxes; the Anchor card no longer offers to insert them. A Series opens with its title pages' series lines already in place, so the page no longer shifts as it loads.
  • In Book Matter, the Frontispiece's picture commands sit under its name as icon buttons, and clicking its thumbnail opens the picture picker. The print-resolution warning is gone. Images rows in Assets drop the text-flow toggle, and two devices no longer trade a picture between their pages.
  • The assistant connector is available as a Claude plugin that bundles the connector with its skills. New skills cover nonfiction, articles, and screenplays; Sheets; a synopsis and query letter; opening pages; finishing the book; and the issues editors flag most often. The continuity check gains a thorough depth, and the connector finds a Project from its Studio address. An assistant can now bring in pictures from Wikimedia Commons, and read a short work such as an article or story whole. Wording an assistant imports arrives without Markdown symbols such as # and *, and waits in its own Draft, Imports from your assistant, rather than marking up your text. The Direct edits and Place pictures switches are gone from Writing Tools: an assistant works in whichever Draft you name, your text included, and takes a Snapshot before it changes your text. Your AI app's own tool permissions decide what it may do.
  • The Image settings dialog now gives most of its room to the picture: the name sits in the heading, tall and square pictures fill the dialog, and the Description is now labeled Alt text. On a phone the dialog takes the whole screen.
  • In Visual Identity, Choose picture, Flip horizontally, and Remove picture sit together beside the artwork heading, and clicking the frame opens the picture picker. A picture that already fills its band says to zoom in before it can be moved. The badge placement is now a book cover beside the title, and the accent color lines up with Recent colors and Smart defaults.
  • Comments, Timeline markers, and other Anchors stay on the words they belong to while you edit, cut, and paste in a long Manuscript that opens a part at a time.
  • On a phone, the header counts each Book's real pages instead of estimating them from its word count.
  • The installed app opens offline on iPhone again, and a Studio left open across a release reloads instead of hanging on its opening screen.
  • Pressing a page's running foot opens its settings, as the running head does. Select word, Select paragraph, and Create range anchor no longer scroll the page back to the top. The update button sits beside the menu, and every Studio tooltip uses one quieter style that waits a moment and disappears when you type.
  • Sidebar rows stay aligned at their start when the panel scrolls.

Tabularia updates · v0.60.0 · v0.59.0 · v0.58.2

Matter pages gain a Frontispiece, and title pages can name the series, number the Book, and credit a translator. Fields stay linked to their settings: matter pages choose them with checkboxes, and a Field you clear keeps its place. Pictures get a description that exports and published pages give readers, a redesigned Image settings dialog, and one picker for choosing them everywhere. Text formatting adds Increase and Decrease indent, and pictures keep their place when you change the page size.

Detailed changes 10
  • Text formatting now ends with Decrease indent and Increase indent. Each moves a paragraph's first line one step, grays out when it can go no further, and works from a phone keyboard that has no Tab key. A first-line indent stops at half the line, in Studio and on published pages, and Return no longer carries a flush paragraph's indent to the next one. Bullet and Numbered lists moved into the Block Style menu.
  • Fields stay linked to their Book setting. Each edge of a Field has its own caret stop, so you can type just before or after one, and words typed over a Field's own selection go into the Field. Title, half-title, dedication, and copyright pages choose their Fields with checkboxes, the copyright page's list is grouped into Copyright, Credits, and Publisher and identifiers, and it can credit contributors as Fields. Clearing a Field on one of those pages leaves its gray placeholder in place and empties the setting, so you can type a new value there later. Each Field's name now shows above its buttons.
  • A Book can open with a Frontispiece: a page for a picture you choose from Assets. Title pages can also show the series name above the title and the Book's number in the series, and can credit a translator under the author, each with its own checkbox in Book Matter.
  • Every picture you upload lives in Assets → Images, and each row has a settings gear. The redesigned Image settings dialog lets you give a picture a description, which exports and published pages give readers as alternative text. Choosing a picture for a Frontispiece, a Sheet, or a Visual Identity now opens one picker that shows your library and lets you upload a new picture.
  • Changing the page size keeps each picture where you put it: a centered picture stays centered, and a picture set under a line stays the same distance below it. The page you were reading stays in view while the pictures settle.
  • Lines on a title or other set matter page edit as ordinary prose, and a double-click that adds a line leaves the others where they stand.
  • In Book Matter, the Introduction, Prologue, and Epilogue checkboxes now match the Chapters the Book holds, so unchecking one removes it instead of springing back on. The Outline lists every Chapter as soon as a Manuscript opens, and a restored Timeline marker can be renamed, moved, and deleted.
  • A phone opened from the Cloud takes in edits made on another device and keeps its place when the Cloud recovers its window, and the line you are reading holds still while another device's edits arrive. Studio's icon buttons show when they are pressed.
  • The AI connector can rename, move, and remove Timeline markers, rename, lock, and delete Drafts, and reveal a Block anywhere in a long Manuscript. Its text import can continue a Scene.
  • If you sign in to a different account in another tab, a Studio page that was already open no longer syncs under that account. It stops, so one account's Projects never land in the other's local storage, and none of its own Projects are uploaded to the wrong account. Reload the page to keep working.

Tabularia updates · v0.58.1 · v0.58.0

New illustrated tours show how novelists, nonfiction writers, and screenwriters plan and revise in Studio, with clearer Guide instructions and refreshed screenshots. Continuous mode closes hidden page gaps and keeps text visible while typing or converting punctuation. The Minimap now renders its full visible window while scrolling, and spelling checks treat trailing hyphens separately from words. Screenplay headings, separator artwork, and Project controls also receive fixes.

Detailed changes 7
  • Explore separate tours for novels, nonfiction, and screenplays, using fictional Projects to show planning, Draft revision, research, and export. The tour address is reserved for the site when choosing a public publishing handle.
  • All 34 Guide articles have clearer instructions. Typography, text colors, Rulers, Writing Tools, and export now have paired light and dark screenshots; narrow reference pages fit phone screens.
  • Continuous mode closes hidden gaps left by printed page boundaries and keeps the Canvas visible while typing or converting two hyphens to an em dash. The Minimap fills its visible window as you scroll. Screenplay headings stay scoped to the Scenes they open, and spelling checks treat trailing hyphens separately from words.
  • Saved separator decoration variants render their intended artwork. Transparent decoration previews follow the chosen ink, and a help tooltip explains shared Book color.
  • The New Project dialog keeps a stable height as starter choices change. Labels use a tag icon, merge counts are more compact, and merge keyboard shortcuts have their own help tooltip.
  • Help buttons retain their round shape and sync status remains readable. Published-page details follow the title page rather than covering its artwork.
  • The Guide now illustrates more public features, including independent Chapter-label styling. Word submission guidance describes its title page, running header, and Chapter page breaks, and front-matter guidance explains optional Roman folios.

October 6, 2026

Tabularia updates · v0.57.0

Book settings now keep Block Styles, Book Matter, headers, and margins with the Book you selected, and Outline links open the correct matter page. Find preserves your place, while imports retain Books and Chapters more reliably. Published reading keeps images and ornaments in both modes, and the Minimap follows live spacing and font-size changes. The guide now includes paired light and dark screenshots of Studio.

Detailed changes 12
  • Block Styles, Book Matter, headers, and margins apply to the selected Book. Numeric fields show and enforce their supported ranges, and a tooltip explains which style settings are shared.
  • Clicking a Book Matter row in the Outline opens its matching page, including Introduction, Prologue, and Epilogue. Window navigation retains the Book structure needed to paint those pages and clears the page header above the destination.
  • Find preserves a manually scrolled position when Working Scope refreshes, and completed word counts stay stable during the refresh. Outline search matches each Book's own title and filters its Book Matter rows.
  • The Minimap updates while font size and paragraph spacing change. Releasing the spacing slider preserves the preview you just chose.
  • Chapter openings keep their chosen page placement and spacing around ornaments. Ornament drags show room above Chapters and preserve the intended text flow.
  • Prologues and Chapters can use separate drop-cap rules. Turning drop caps off restores their initials to ordinary text, and saved headers and footers remain inside the page margins.
  • Importing a folder of complete manuscripts preserves separate Books, and folder-selected novels retain their Chapters. Front and back matter are recognized only when the surrounding structure supports that reading; imported contents are rebuilt from the Book outline.
  • Published pages retain images and ornaments in continuous reading mode, and images keep their text wrapping on narrow pages. Reading appearance follows saved preferences, and the control pill collapses after the pointer leaves.
  • Project artwork follows rows that grow with their content. Image-backed rows keep readable dark styling across themes, with subdued disabled actions; light themes use translucent Project labels.
  • Help and tooltips italicize named references consistently. The guide adds paired light and dark screenshots and fuller explanations of Studio features.
  • Writing tools offer a clearer path into Studio, and public pages revalidate before reusing cached HTML.
  • Live spacing previews keep their indexing work bounded to the visible window, including layouts whose ornament positions have not been prepared. Prepared ornament coordinates stay with the version supplying the layout.

October 5, 2026

Tabularia updates · v0.56.2 · v0.56.1 · v0.56.0 · v0.55.1 · v0.55.0

Published pages scroll normally again in both reading modes, and Studio keeps its familiar ribbon opening animation. Refined alignment and four new reading fonts improve how paragraphs look on the page, while images, wrapping, and the Minimap update together. Mobile fixes keep Return and Delete working after Canvas taps and make Projects easier to open. Pending cloud edits retain their ordering after reload, and page-setting previews reflect the chosen margins and colors.

Detailed changes 17
  • Refined Left, Center, Right, and Justify sit beside their ordinary alignment counterparts. Refined modes consider the paragraph as a whole and adjust tracking within a two-percent line-width limit; Refined Justify fills interior lines, while Refined Center favors a rhythm of shorter and longer lines.
  • Type with Literata, Source Serif 4, Newsreader, or Libron. Font names containing numbers now render correctly on the Canvas.
  • Font-size sliders and live image wrapping do less repeated work. Dragging an image from Assets shows one preview, and repositioned images keep their text exclusions after the layout settles.
  • In justified paragraphs, repeated spaces preserve their width and keep the caret aligned with the text. Typography Clear resets the current text styles correctly.
  • Text formatting groups styles, font family, alignment, links, footnotes, anchors, and lists. Typography groups size, spacing, emphasis, and Clear. Field actions stay together in a small selection pill.
  • Toolbar-created anchors reveal their location and open their comment card. Scrolling the Outline can move away from the selected row without being pulled back.
  • Updates appear behind a stable header indicator. Page settings and previews follow the available screen width, and creating a Sheet from a mobile spelling action refreshes the word immediately.
  • Footnote references stay attached to the preceding word at a line edge. Their hanging labels, painted positions, and caret advances remain consistent when refined tracking is applied.
  • Reloading while an edit is waiting to sync preserves the operation history needed to keep concurrent edits in the same order on every device. That context is released when it is no longer needed.
  • Rounded beat targets in the Story Structure calculator and template pages stay within the Book's total word count.
  • Images and surrounding text update in the same frame when formatting changes. The Minimap follows the live wrapping preview and shows a new image while it is dragged from Assets, before it is placed.
  • Opening a Project with images no longer leaves the Minimap waiting on its opening layout. Temporary image anchors are not written back as saved placements.
  • When a selected font finishes loading, visible text is laid out with its actual measurements while preserving your reading position.
  • On iPhone, tapping the Canvas preserves the keyboard's editing caret so Return and Delete continue to work. A small sideways drift while tapping a Project row no longer closes the panel before the Project opens.
  • The Headers & Margins preview keeps left and right margins on their labeled sides, including facing pages. Resetting a color redraws the preview immediately.
  • Studio's familiar ribbon animation is restored while a Project opens.
  • Published pages scroll normally again in both page and continuous reading modes, including on phones and tablets.

October 4, 2026

Tabularia updates · v0.54.0 · v0.53.4 · v0.53.3 · v0.53.2 · v0.53.1 · v0.53.0

Body Text font and alignment changes now stay applied, alongside today's spacing, selection, and Safari resizing fixes. Mobile typing, Project creation, and startup are steadier, while Draft merges, History, text exports, and offline updates preserve their intended state.

Detailed changes 20
  • Selecting, copying, and deleting formatted text now target the letters shown on the page, including paragraphs with repeated spaces and Tabs.
  • A paragraph containing only a Tab still advances to its tab stop.
  • Repeated spaces stay visible at the beginning and in the middle of a paragraph, including across bold and italic text. Typing wraps at the page body edge instead of running into the margin, and an indented justified line uses the space it actually has. Paragraph alignment remains selected as you add spaces.
  • The letter-spacing slider reuses the lines already on screen as you drag, so adjustments respond more quickly in large manuscripts. Live widths, resets, and balanced lines follow the setting, and the Minimap stays readable without moving your place. Preview indexing now follows the visible range rather than the loaded Manuscript size, and Reset preserves unrelated line-height and paragraph-spacing settings.
  • Resizing the Document Panel in Safari Zoom mode does less repeated drawing and font work. The page title and Minimap reuse their prepared contents while the panel moves.
  • Working Scope joins its selected passages without empty gaps, keeps the opening and closing margins, and shows only those pages in the Minimap. The Outline stays aligned as you scroll. Book rows in the Outline now respect the label filter instead of remaining visible when they do not match. Following an Outline scope paints the correct pages immediately, and a scoped Draft copy keeps the page containing its caret. With Current Chapter selected, clicking another Chapter in the Outline waits for that Chapter to be composed before positioning the Canvas. The narrowed-scope warning remains visible when the selected Chapter fills the loaded window.
  • Writing from the Timeline Drawer preserves your Working Scope and Drawer zoom. Double-clicking an Outline item frames its passage without opening its inspector.
  • Font and formatting choices apply to the paragraph containing the caret. Changing Style Body Text now keeps the selected font and alignment after background layout finishes, and visible text stays within the page body. The default font takes effect correctly, and scoped previews, quote controls, and clearing formatting stay beside the passage you are editing.
  • Chapter openings can hide their header and footer independently. Their previews use the same spacing as the page, and header and footer highlights remain clear when you switch settings tabs. Chapter-start previews show the chosen page arrangement, including a facing continuation or an intentionally blank page. Half-page previews are stacked vertically so the two pages are easier to compare. Every opening policy uses the same overall preview height. The preview paper aligns with the Book selector, and New page shows one complete page.
  • Draft Markup stays with the source currently shown, and hiding a Draft remembers its Markup setting for the next open. Save-conflict messages explain what happened, and merges preserve Unicode text boundaries.
  • Connected assistants can capture a Draft from a named Timeline or selected Outline rows. They can also use a picture already in the Project as artwork for a Project, Sheet, Timeline, or Anchor; you can adjust its crop in Studio.
  • Project archives and backup folders use safe filenames for Draft revisions, so backing up a Project with Drafts works across filesystems. Existing archives still import.
  • Linked Fields have a separate actions button closer to their text, and each repeated copy can be managed independently. Settings explanations open on click or tap and link to the relevant guide.
  • On phones and tablets, Anchors are easier to tap and drag, spelling and synonym suggestions have more readable menus, and scrolling and selections behave more consistently. Active menus remain visible when the toolbar is collapsed, and their Close buttons line up correctly. The new-Project dialog no longer outlines its heading as if it were an input, and its title input uses a readable 16px size on phones to avoid iOS input zoom. Backspacing within a word no longer resets the mobile keyboard's capitalization context.
  • Automatic Chapter drop caps start off for new accounts and new Projects. Turn them on deliberately in Chapter Openings when you want them; existing chosen drop caps remain intact.
  • Paused Draft merges no longer open their merge controls by default. Dismissing the continuation bar keeps it dismissed, and inactive Anchors no longer announce themselves when a Project reopens.
  • Typing begun while the Canvas opens is retained and applied when it is ready. On phones, the Sidebar becomes usable before the Canvas finishes loading, including when it started closed.
  • Leaving History ends a Snapshot preview. Typing in a read-only preview explains why it is unavailable, and a held Manuscript remembers its caret position when saved.
  • Markdown and Fountain exports preserve bold, italic, and other inline formatting across adjoining runs, repeated spaces, and punctuation. Markdown uses readable emphasis where possible and a supported inline fallback when delimiters cannot preserve the text faithfully.
  • Offline startup waits for Studio readiness before reconnecting. App updates retain the last complete offline release if a download is interrupted, and already-open tabs keep access to their cached scripts.

Tabularia updates · v0.52.1 · v0.52.0

Footnotes arrive: write a note at the foot of the page, or bring notes in from Word, Google Docs, and other imports. A Book can print its own Contents page, use designed Chapter Openings, and number lines or paragraphs in the margin. Pages can also run as one continuous column, while saving, Undo, and resizing hold up better on long Manuscripts. These writing features are included in the free plan, with Cloud adding sync and sharing.

Detailed changes 32
  • Footnotes are here. Press Cmd+Option+F (Ctrl+Alt+F on Windows), or choose Insert Footnote from the right-click menu, and type the note where it sits at the foot of the page. With Markdown shortcuts on, typing ^[note] makes a real one.
  • Importing a manuscript or pasting from Word or Google Docs now brings its footnotes and endnotes in as footnotes. Exports keep them too: a DOCX gets Word's own footnotes, and EPUB, HTML, and Markdown get linked endnotes.
  • A Book can print a Contents page built from its Chapters, and it stays current as you write. Book Matter settings choose how many levels it lists, and a Scene can be given its own title there.
  • Each Act can open on a Part page of its own, and new Acts take the name your Book uses for them.
  • Chapter Openings, in the Decorations panel, design how each kind of Chapter begins. By default the label and number share one line and the opening page carries no header. Introduction, Prologue, and Epilogue are now kinds of Chapter.
  • Front matter is numbered in roman numerals, and you choose where an Introduction starts the count. Title and other matter pages can hold Fields that stay in step with the Book's settings, so a changed title or author is changed everywhere it appears.
  • Line, paragraph, and Section numbers can be printed in the margin. Pick the side, and in Two Page view the side is read against the binding.
  • Links are part of your text now. Add, edit, or remove one right on the page. They carry through import and export, the clipboard, and publishing.
  • The zoom card's Pages row offers One, Two, or Continuous. Continuous lays the Book out as one column and gathers each Chapter's footnotes at its end. A Mirror margins switch sets up facing pages for a bound book.
  • Typing got smarter. With the new Smart punctuation switch on, two hyphens make an em dash, a spaced hyphen makes an en dash, and three periods make an ellipsis. Tab moves to the next half-inch stop.
  • Backspace at the start of an indented paragraph removes the indent first, as Word does. Bold, italic, or underline turned on with nothing selected now waits for the words you type next.
  • Right-click a word for synonyms. Right-click a misspelled name to make a Sheet for it, and the word stops being flagged. On a phone or tablet, spelling suggestions and the right-click commands now work by touch.
  • Turn on Show invisibles in Writing Tools to see spaces, tabs, and paragraph ends marked on the page. Zero-width characters show as a warning, so they can be found. Stray zero-width characters are removed on import and paste.
  • Bulleted and Numbered lists are in the Block style menu. Option+Space on a Mac, or Ctrl+Shift+Space elsewhere, types a no-break space.
  • Lamplight is a new dark theme: blue-black ink with an amber accent. Times New Roman and Courier New are in the font menu, and Tabularia tells you when a typeface won't be available on your other devices.
  • PDF export can write a print interior as PDF/X-1a and check it against the print service it's meant for. A PDF now shows your text color, highlighting, and underlines, and its links can be clicked.
  • A series can export as one file per Book, and a multi-Book export no longer copies the first Book's ISBN and details into the others. Export asks whether to match your text colors and keeps them readable.
  • A picture you place keeps its page and its spot on that page, in print, in PDF, and in every export.
  • A Draft merge now has compact controls over the page on desktop and phone. You can decide changes from the keyboard, leave a merge, and return through its continuation bar. Rejected changes stay rejected when a paused merge resumes, and accepted wording survives the final save.
  • A Draft can be deleted for good from its row, and an archived Draft can be previewed before you bring it back. Merges now show heavily rewritten paragraphs as one change and pair pasted or restored paragraphs with their originals. A styling change in Markup keeps the words in the page's own ink, shows the new styling, and underlines them in the markup color.
  • Writing statistics can count one Book or the whole series, and the Projects list can be sorted by word count.
  • Saving is sturdier. Words saved into the same paragraph from two tabs are both kept, and renaming a Book in another tab no longer interrupts saving. Continuous typing saves at least every five seconds. If another tab deletes or locks the Draft you are typing in, the page keeps your words visible and tells you they have not been saved.
  • Changing a Style's font size or other formatting updates the writing in view while the rest of the Manuscript catches up. Document Panel resizing in Zoom mode also uses a faster update path.
  • Custom Timelines now tell you when hidden Drafts hold some of their markers. Press the chip in the filter band to open those Drafts in Drafts & Sharing.
  • Chrome and Edge can compose desktop input-method text directly on the Canvas. Desktop text entry also handles dictation and emoji text delivered by the browser.
  • Phone and tablet controls are easier to press: submenu Back arrows, Reset, and Close have larger touch areas, and formatting controls follow the text being edited.
  • Undo after cutting a large passage brings it back in seconds and returns you to where you were. Undo also restores titles, Outline entries, and Draft scopes more faithfully.
  • For Cloud plan Writers sharing a review: an Editor can leave a review with or without sending it, an Author can say why a Share ended, and an Editor is told why their access ended. Archiving the Draft ends the review but leaves the Editor able to read their copy.
  • Cloud sync brings every device back to the same Manuscript after time offline, and a device whose copy is out of date takes the newer one instead of overwriting it.
  • Published pages follow your links, and their Account menu offers Sign out and Leave.
  • The website adds free writing tools and story templates you can open straight in Tabularia, answers to common writing-software problems, and a glossary.
  • The Alignment menu stays open while you try different choices. Returning to the page from Text formatting, Typography, or Link keeps your reading position instead of jumping to the top.

Tabularia updates · v0.51.10 · v0.51.9

Merging a Draft shows splits, joins, headings, and block quotes as clear changes and tells you when a decision can't be applied; long Manuscripts stay on your page while loading.

Detailed changes 13
  • When you merge a Draft, splitting or joining paragraphs, or rewriting a whole section, now shows as one change to accept or reject instead of several pieces.
  • A merge now lists a paragraph turned into a block quote or a heading as its own change. Before, those changes could be left out of the merge.
  • If a merge can't apply one of your decisions, Studio now tells you, and Reject all or Accept all finishes the rest instead of stopping.
  • A Draft created while a merge was open no longer picks up the merge's empty placeholder paragraphs.
  • On a long Manuscript that was still loading, the screen could go blank for several seconds and then jump to page 1. It now stays on the passage you were reading.
  • On a phone-width window with page lines hidden, a far scroll could leave the screen blank for several seconds. Text now appears right away.
  • Scrolling in big steps while a long Manuscript loaded could make the text jump by a few hundred pixels. It now holds still.
  • One press of the Down arrow at the edge of the loaded pages could skip a paragraph. It now moves to the next one.
  • Moving a spacing slider just after an arrow key at the edge of the loaded pages could change the paragraph you were leaving. It now changes the paragraph you moved into.
  • With the whole Manuscript loaded, typing right after a paste could land before the pasted text. Pastes now go in first.
  • The word count in the Projects list could be wrong for a long Manuscript, sometimes counting part of it twice. It now matches the Manuscript.
  • Below a stacked Draft copy, the frame and handles of a selected Scene Break or Drop Cap could resize the paragraph next to it. They now act on the one you selected.
  • Leaving a locked Draft no longer shows a false "Local save failed" message.

Tabularia updates · v0.51.8 · v0.51.7 · v0.51.6 · v0.51.5

Edits inside a Draft Stack copy keep the other Draft's formatting, the arrow keys follow you through copies, and typing held while Studio is busy stays out of locked Drafts.

Detailed changes 40
  • Editing inside a stacked Draft copy could strip all formatting, such as italics, from that paragraph in the other Draft. Typing, deleting, pasting, Cut, and Change Case in a copy now keep its formatting.
  • After clicking in a stacked copy, the arrow keys moved the cursor you could see while your typing still went into the copy, and Shift with an arrow could select your own words instead. Arrows now move from where you are, and leaving the copy takes your typing with you.
  • Bold and the other formatting shortcuts used inside a stacked copy changed the original passage. A copy takes wording only, so they now say so instead. Changing case from the right-click menu, Select All, and Insert from file now act on the copy or beside it as you'd expect.
  • Below a stacked copy, the arrow keys could skip to the wrong paragraph, and deleting a Scene Break put the cursor in the copy. Both now land where you are.
  • A Drop Cap or Ornament you had selected could jump to another paragraph when a long Manuscript finished loading with a Draft stacked ahead of it. It now stays put.
  • Typing held while Studio was busy is now checked again when its turn comes, so it can't land in a locked Draft. That includes the on-screen keyboard on phones and tablets. A held Backspace at the start of an indented paragraph now removes the indent rather than joining paragraphs.
  • If switching Drafts discarded something you typed while Studio was busy, the notice that says so now actually appears, and typing behind an unrelated wait is no longer thrown away.
  • Backspace at the start of a paragraph just after a Scene Break or Divider could hide that paragraph's words inside the break, and a second Backspace moved them onto the paragraph above. Backspace now removes the break and leaves your paragraph whole. Forward Delete on a Scene Break or Divider is fixed the same way.
  • In the Replace All preview, a match you had unticked came back ticked as soon as you clicked into your writing, and Apply then replaced it. Your choices now stay as you left them.
  • After a single Replace, the Replace All preview ticked every match again, including the ones you had turned down. It now keeps them turned down.
  • Replace All's Apply, pressed while a long Manuscript was still loading, could skip a ticked match that came after a tracked insertion. It now replaces every match you left ticked.
  • A comment or Anchor added on another device could appear a few letters off, inside words you had just typed. It now lands on the words it was made for.
  • After placing an Anchor while a long Manuscript was loading, the cursor could land in a different paragraph, so your next keystroke edited the wrong place. It now stays where you were.
  • The Drop Cap controls below a stacked Draft copy now act on the paragraph you selected.
  • Below a stacked Draft copy, Backspace or Delete could remove a Scene Break, a Chapter Ornament, or a Drop Cap other than the one you had selected. It now removes the one you chose.
  • A selection made inside a stacked Draft copy was read as the original passage, so Copy, Cut, and Change Case used the wrong words, and typing replaced them. The selection now means the copy.
  • Reopening a long Manuscript with a Draft copy stacked above your place could land two pages off. It now opens where you left it.
  • Holding Backspace or Delete at the edge of the loaded pages of a long Manuscript stopped after one paragraph. It now keeps going.
  • A Select All that couldn't finish could block typing for up to two minutes. It now gives up after 30 seconds, and Escape cancels it at once.
  • If switching Drafts discards something you typed while Studio was busy, Studio now tells you instead of dropping it silently.
  • Changes made on the ruler or in the settings panels now wait for a running operation to finish, so they aren't lost or overwritten. A margin changed during a History restore is kept.
  • The Replace All preview could stay on "Updating the preview" if you typed while it searched. It now refreshes on its own.
  • A page margin set on the page you reopen to now lands on that page, and text no longer wraps around a picture from another page after an edit during loading.
  • The word counts in the header no longer disappear when your Drafts refresh.
  • Pressing Escape, or clicking in the page, right after Select All on a long Manuscript now cancels it. Before, the next thing you typed could replace the whole section.
  • While a long Manuscript was still opening, text typed just after an arrow key at the edge of the loaded pages could be lost, and a spacing or style change made then could be dropped. Both now go through.
  • A paste made right after Select All could land after the text you typed next. It now lands in the order you pressed.
  • Tab pressed at the start of a paragraph while Studio was busy typed a tab character. It now indents. Held arrow keys no longer stop a paragraph short, and Select All pressed during a jump is no longer ignored.
  • Below a stacked Draft copy, Backspace on a blank line could delete the line under it, and Backspace or Delete in the last paragraph did nothing. They now work on the paragraph you're in.
  • Custom styles, paragraph spacing, and font changes below a stacked copy now apply to your own paragraph, and the list buttons work there.
  • The toolbar now shows the list, alignment, and style of your own paragraph below a stacked copy, and formatting you apply there reaches your other devices.
  • With Markup showing on a stacked copy, moving the cursor could be slow in a long Manuscript. It's quick again.
  • Replace All's Apply, pressed while a long Manuscript was still opening, could rewrite matches you hadn't chosen. It now rewrites only the ones left ticked.
  • A match you declined in the Replace All preview could come back ticked after a large deletion, an Undo, or when it sat beyond the loaded pages. Your choice now holds.
  • Replace, used after restoring a Snapshot with Find still open, could change a paragraph near the start of the Book. It now changes the match you're on.
  • After an edit deep in a long Manuscript, scrolling up or reopening could move the page you were reading by several pages. It now stays put.
  • With page lines hidden, a far scroll could leave the top half of the screen blank, and scrolling up afterward could put the Manuscript's first paragraphs out of reach. Both are fixed.
  • With Cloud sync on, text dropped after a long operation timed out could still reach your other devices. It no longer does.
  • An edit arriving from another device no longer moves your cursor back to where it was a moment earlier, and an Anchor made on another device lands on the right words when you have unsent typing.
  • The Outline now catches up after you edit Chapter headings and keep typing.

Tabularia updates · v0.51.4 · v0.51.3 · v0.51.2

Commands below a Draft Stack copy act on your paragraph, Find and Replace All keep your choices, long Manuscripts keep their place while opening, and blank pages around front matter are gone.

Detailed changes 34
  • The Sheets panel's search box and New sheet button had slipped out of view, so you couldn't make a Sheet. They're back.
  • An Act made from Project Settings while a Draft held its Chapter could be removed later, and the Manuscript then failed to open. The Act now stays.
  • After a reload, spellcheck only checked the first part of a long Manuscript until you typed. It now checks all of it.
  • In a Book or Act Draft, resizing or redesigning a Divider changed the parent Draft instead. It now changes the Draft you're in, and a Divider dropped from the library joins it too.
  • Custom front pages placed before the title page now take clicks and show the caret in Write Mode.
  • Blank pages no longer appear between custom front pages and the title page, or after a Book that ends on a custom back page. Editing a dedication, copyright, or title page no longer adds a page either.
  • Clearing the title on the title page no longer renames your Book "Untitled Manuscript".
  • If Chrome lost its connection in a certain way, every page could open as the offline page until you restarted it. Pages now load once the connection is back.
  • Below a stacked Draft copy, Copy, Cut, Change Case, Insert from file, dropping a file, and accepting or rejecting a change could act on the paragraph above. They now act on the paragraph you're in.
  • Also below a stacked copy: pasting over an Anchor, Remove empty lines, Return in the last paragraph, a quotation's Source, and Delete over struck words now stay in your paragraph. "Current Chapter" and the other "Current" scopes, and finding a Draft's passage, measure from it too.
  • Find's Replace, used after scrolling up in a long Manuscript, could change the paragraph above the match. It now changes the match you're on.
  • In the Replace All preview, a match you had unticked could come back ticked after an edit, including Return or Backspace, and Apply then changed it. Your choices now hold, and a new search starts with every match ticked.
  • The Replace All preview no longer gets stuck on "Updating the preview", and while a long Manuscript is still opening it no longer applies only the part on screen.
  • Editing near where a long Manuscript opened could jump the view to its first pages. The view now stays put, and page margins on a deep first open match the page you're on.
  • With page lines hidden, a jump from Find, the Outline, or the Timeline could land at the top of a long Manuscript. It now lands on the place. Arrow keys also move on past a paragraph you added at the end of what's loaded.
  • While a long Manuscript was opening, a Cut could remove a selection you made afterward, or only the part on screen, and a toolbar change during a Cut could freeze typing for 30 seconds. Cut, Copy, Select All, and Scene Breaks now wait their turn and act on the whole selection.
  • A Snapshot now waits for accepted or rejected changes to finish saving, so it records them.
  • With a Draft Stack showing, a click in a paragraph below a stacked copy could put your typing, Return, formatting, or a new Anchor in the paragraph above. They now go where you clicked, and the menus act on that paragraph too.
  • While a long Manuscript was still opening, typing right after Select All could change only the part on screen. It now replaces the whole selection.
  • A key pressed just as the page scrolled back to your cursor could be lost. It is now typed where you left it.
  • Replace All on a long Manuscript that was still opening could change only the part on screen. It now waits until the whole Manuscript is ready.
  • Deep in a long Manuscript that was still opening, Chapter numbers, page numbers, running heads on Chapter openings, and page margins could briefly be wrong. They now match the finished pages, and a Timeline marker made then no longer saves a wrong page number.
  • The Outline could shift its entries by a paragraph when you pressed Return or Backspace while a long Manuscript was opening. They now stay in place.
  • A drag in progress as a long Manuscript finished opening could jump to select far more text than you meant. It now stays where you were dragging.
  • Scrolling to the end of a long Manuscript, or to a facing page, while it was opening could leave a page blank until you scrolled again. It now fills in.
  • Taking a Snapshot while a long Manuscript was still opening could save only the part on screen as your working copy. A Snapshot now always records the whole Manuscript.
  • Turning on Markup for a Draft in those first seconds could mark up only the paragraphs already loaded, and it stayed that way. It now covers the whole Draft.
  • Creating a Draft or exporting from a selection, pinned, or heading Working Scope while a long Manuscript was opening could take the wrong paragraphs. It now takes the ones you chose.
  • Showing or hiding Drafts a few times while a long Manuscript opened could stop it from ever finishing. It now finishes and shows the Drafts you chose last.
  • Find's Replace, pressed just as a long Manuscript finished opening, could change a match near the beginning instead of the one on screen. Replace now changes only the match you are looking at.
  • With Preview changes on, Apply after you edited your search or your text could replace matches you had not been shown. Apply now waits until the preview is up to date.
  • Undo could take away paragraphs that loaded while you scrolled, if you had typed just before. Undo now gives back only your own change.
  • A click just after scrolling up could put the caret two paragraphs above where you clicked. It now lands where you click.
  • Scene breaks and dividers added while a long Manuscript was opening now appear in the right place on your other devices.

Tabularia updates · v0.51.1 · v0.51.0

Text no longer slips across a page break when you scroll back through a long Manuscript that is still opening.

Detailed changes 1
  • Scrolling back up through a long Manuscript while it was still opening could draw a few lines of text across the gap between pages, over the next page's header. The text now stays on its page.

September 26, 2026

Tabularia updates · v0.50.2

Saves keep working while a long Manuscript finishes opening, and paragraphs you delete or retype in that time are saved as you left them.

Detailed changes 3
  • Typing in a long Manuscript while the rest of it was still loading in could make every save after that fail until the whole Manuscript had opened. Those saves now go through.
  • Deleting a paragraph that had only just loaded in, while a long Manuscript was still opening, could leave it to come back the next time you opened the Manuscript. That deletion is now saved.
  • Retyping one paragraph in the same moment as adding or removing another could, in some cases, keep the paragraph's old wording. The new wording is now saved.

September 25, 2026

Tabularia updates · v0.50.1

Undo no longer stops Tabularia saving your later writing, and the page asks before you leave while a change is unsaved. A refresh after a failed save now opens the Manuscript instead of refusing it.

Detailed changes 4
  • Undoing a paste or a new Chapter after it had saved could stop Tabularia saving anything written afterwards, with only a red line in the corner to say so. Undo now saves normally, and an undo that cannot finish saving no longer holds your later writing back.
  • Tabularia now asks before you refresh or close the page while a change is still unsaved.
  • Refreshing no longer reports that a Manuscript could not be opened after a failed save; it opens at the top instead.
  • When saving fails, the status line now says so plainly: "Local save failed. Your latest changes are not saved yet."

Tabularia updates · v0.50.0 · v0.49.2 · v0.49.1

The home page reads more clearly and its opening artwork is whole again. Help & Info now offers Send Feedback, so you can write to us without leaving Tabularia. On a phone, tapping a Manuscript in the panel opens that Manuscript instead of reloading the one already in front of you.

Detailed changes 4
  • Help & Info now lists Send Feedback, which opens a message to us from inside Tabularia.
  • The home page says who Tabularia is for near the top, and the gold ribbon in its opening artwork is no longer cut off at the left edge.
  • On a phone, tapping a Manuscript in the panel opens it. It had been closing the panel and reloading the Manuscript already in front of you, leaving the one you tapped unopened.
  • An earlier fix for that, released today, left Projects sitting on Opening instead. It was withdrawn the same day and is not in this release.

Tabularia updates · v0.49.0 · v0.48.0

Tabularia opens to the assistant you already use. Connect one to a Project and it reads your Manuscript; what it writes comes back as a Draft you read beside the original and merge a difference at a time, with a Snapshot taken before it starts. The site installs as an app from any page now, and installs light — the offline editor is fetched when you ask for it rather than downloaded by everyone who reads a marketing page. Earlier in the day, writing on a phone got out of its own way: a dialog no longer summons the keyboard over its own buttons, and the toolbar and dock ride above the keyboard and follow it back down.

Detailed changes 25
  • Connect an assistant to a Project and it works inside the Manuscript rather than beside it. What it writes arrives as a Draft, so you read it against the original and merge a difference at a time.
  • A connected assistant can take a Snapshot before it starts, so there is a point to come back to if you do not like where it went.
  • An assistant can also work with a Project's Sheets, reading what you have recorded there and writing back to it.
  • An assistant can bring in a picture it made or found. You decide whether it is placed on the page or only offered for you to place.
  • Five pieces of guidance now travel with the connector, from a developmental read to a line edit, so an assistant follows a method instead of improvising one.
  • When Tabularia refuses something a connected assistant asked for, the refusal names the limit it actually hit.
  • You can install Tabularia as an app from any page on the site, and the install is small now: the offline editor and the import formats are fetched when you ask for the offline Studio or open Studio signed in, rather than downloaded by everyone who reads a marketing page.
  • Public pages no longer flash white between one page and the next, and the homepage stops arriving twice over.
  • Studio and the public pages both start faster. The public pages no longer carry Studio's chrome, and the canvas sync queue has moved out of Studio's boot.
  • On a phone, a decoration can be moved or removed, Find stays open while its sections are expanded, and the navigation dock's controls fill their band.
  • Timeline Anchors are tidier: the stem meets its head, both sit on the device's pixel grid, and a Range Anchor's head is square so the two kinds read apart.
  • Deleting a Snapshot while you are previewing it returns you to the Manuscript instead of leaving you looking at nothing.
  • Canceling a marker press hands your selection back.
  • Subscribing from Safari reaches Stripe's payment page again.
  • On a phone, opening a dialog no longer summons the keyboard over the dialog's own buttons. The import dialog kept its Import file and Import folder choices out of reach that way; they are reachable again.
  • The editor toolbar and the navigation dock now sit above the on-screen keyboard and follow it back down when it closes, instead of being covered by it.
  • The button that summons the on-screen keyboard answers the first press, rather than needing a second one.
  • On Android, Back now closes the panel standing over your Manuscript rather than leaving the Manuscript altogether, and pulling down past the top of a document no longer reloads Studio.
  • Tabularia asks the browser to keep your work from being cleared to reclaim space, and tells you when the browser refuses or when storage is running short, rather than leaving you to find out.
  • A Manuscript that will not open because another tab or window is still holding it now says so on the page, instead of waiting silently.
  • A browser set to block site data no longer breaks syncing silently.
  • A Manuscript loads every typeface its styles name, so Georgia and Fraunces set as they were chosen rather than falling back to whatever the device had.
  • The editor's floating chrome is more transparent, so more of the page shows through it.
  • Phone keyboards now label the Enter key for the field you are in — Done, Next or Search — and a paste your browser refuses now says so instead of doing nothing.
  • Photos a phone camera stored as HEIC or HEIF can be picked for upload instead of being greyed out.

September 20, 2026

Tabularia updates · v0.47.0

A large release for writing on a phone or tablet. Panels now follow your finger instead of easing after it, the chrome toggle has become the Compass, and the Minimap draws sharply and stays smooth while you drag it. Story structures reach the Outline, and reading text is a size larger everywhere.

Detailed changes 12
  • Sidebars and panels track your finger as you swipe them open and shut, and a flick now carries as far as the speed you actually gave it.
  • Swiping a panel no longer triggers your browser's own back gesture, and a panel stops at the edge of the screen instead of following your finger off it.
  • The chrome toggle is now the Compass: one disc whose arrows open the Timeline Drawer, the Drafts panel and the Minimap, with its two extra buttons moved to the diagonals.
  • The Minimap draws on the device's own pixel grid, so its page rules and thumb are crisp rather than blurred, and it leaves your pictures alone while you drag its edge so the drag stays smooth.
  • Story structures reach the Outline: it offers them when a Manuscript has none, they land on a Manuscript holding a single paragraph, and the Outline now says why it will not delete your last Book.
  • A Snapshot taken while a preview is open no longer overwrites the Manuscript, and a preview always ends before anything else acts on your writing.
  • Reading text is a size larger, both in the Manuscript and across the site.
  • On a phone: long press and the screen edges work again, the page no longer magnifies when a field takes focus, the Find dialog closes with the keyboard, and the navigation dock keeps clear of the home gesture.
  • On Android: the keyboard composes directly into the Manuscript, Markdown files can be picked for import, and scrolling runs on a single clock so it no longer stutters.
  • Installing Tabularia offers a phone screenshot to the install dialog, names both wordings an Android menu uses, and fills the installed app's tile with the mark.
  • The Working Scope options, the sync dot and the Draft nodes all have targets a fingertip can actually hit.
  • Scrolling and page shadows are cheaper to draw, and Safari gets a compositing layer of its own for each canvas.

Tabularia updates · v0.46.0 · v0.45.0 · v0.44.0 · v0.43.1 · v0.43.0 · v0.42.0 · v0.41.0

Connected assistants get a proper consent screen, an address you can copy, and a grant that lasts until you take it back. Published pages stop outliving the work they came from, restoring a backup says plainly what it cannot bring back, and the Studio finally lays itself out inside a phone's safe area.

Detailed changes 13
  • The account page names the connector, gives its address a field you can copy out of, and folds Published pages and Connected assistants away until you want them.
  • The consent screen is shorter, carries the invitation's band, and holds a spinner while it works. A signed-out Writer is returned to the approval they started.
  • Tabularia says what an assistant may do, stamps the grant each time one reads, and keeps that grant until you take it back.
  • An assistant can propose an edit and add a picture to the Images, and every answer it gives now says what it left out rather than quietly stopping short.
  • A published book can be found by readers without being trained on, and each Writer's subdomain gets a sitemap and robots file of its own.
  • Publishing: lock and publication announcements no longer ring over and over, a page no longer outlives the work it was published from, and filing away a Draft that has a published page asks you first.
  • Restoring a backup now counts the Drafts it cannot bring back and the published pages it rewrites — counts, never names — and the Projects panel word count refreshes once it is done.
  • Cloud Snapshots load into History without being asked, a search term carries into a cloud read, and Manuscripts stored compressed read back correctly.
  • On a tablet: every panel rail has a grip, a closed panel's pill stays out of the edge-gesture strip, and the Timeline playhead has a finger-sized circle.
  • The Studio lays itself out inside the phone's safe area rather than under it, measuring the bottom chrome that browsers will not report.
  • Billing shows the price Stripe will actually charge rather than the tier's list price.
  • Guide articles are served as Markdown as well, and their links navigate again.
  • Offline: the Studio keeps its hyphenation patterns and cover artwork, and holds its layout even when the hyphenation dictionary will not load.

Tabularia updates · v0.40.0 · v0.39.1 · v0.39.0

Start a Project from a story structure, hand real work to an assistant, and bring manuscripts in from the apps writers actually use. Drafts get colors and labels, reviews announce themselves, and the formatting panels respond as you move a slider.

Detailed changes 14
  • Eleven story structures, named Tabularia's own way, including premise-and-three-disasters. A Project can open on one, an empty Timeline fills from one, and a script's Scenes open with it.
  • The New Project form replaces the old first-Project choice and offers a story structure and a Series; Series, Article and script shapes each name their own parts.
  • Connected assistants arrive: a consent screen with a named account, sign-in and discovery, and a way to disconnect at any time.
  • An assistant can bring wording into the open Manuscript, write a rewrite into a Draft it made, build a Timeline out of the Manuscript, add and move Outline items (never delete one), carry or drop a Book's Matter pages, and measure your prose exactly instead of estimating it.
  • Whether your writing may train a model is your assistant's setting, and Tabularia now tells you so.
  • Imports: DOCX and Scrivener pictures come across, Windows Scrivener projects give up their prose and not just their titles, and LivingWriter, Sudowrite, Reedsy Studio and Storyist packages are accepted. A Project can start from pictures alone.
  • Drafts: each one gets a color that its rail and its node both wear, labels filter through the Outline's own menu, and a Draft carries the Manuscript's Scene labels.
  • Sharing and review: a recipient sees a Share that arrives while they are working, a review coming back is announced, the badge carries its count before the panel is opened, and a redline says who proposed it and keeps its formatting.
  • Anchors: a phone gets the gestures and menu order a desktop has, Anchor cards stay inside a phone-width panel, and the Anchor commands are offered at a blank insertion point.
  • Formatting: a font size applies as you move the slider, the ruler guides move with it, spacing sheets size themselves, Alignment has moved to Typography, and your place is kept when a slider rewraps the Manuscript.
  • On a phone: panels open as sheets that hug their own rows and stay off the edges, the New Project form fits, and the wordmark stays in the header.
  • A cloud Snapshot can be brought down as a Snapshot of this Project, and a Writer who has gone offline is told so.
  • Document search now searches the whole document.
  • The pricing pages stop promising the free application will stay free, and make the case for it on permanence instead.

Writing on a phone is the day's biggest change. Touch scrolling behaves the way it does everywhere else on the device, so a flick carries as far as it should and a glide stops under your thumb; a long press picks up a picture so you can move it; and an anchor can be dragged without the page sliding away underneath. The page sets better too, with bounded word-space compression, hanging punctuation inside the justification cap, and discretionary hyphens painted once. Large projects open faster and come back more reliably from an interrupted restore or a timed-out working copy. Cloud now lists at $18 a month, or $172.80 a year.

Detailed changes 53
  • Show resolved font values in formatting row.
  • Keep header in empty workspace.
  • Lock scroll while an anchor is held.
  • Keep anchor drags from scrolling.
  • Retain repeated anchor touch drags.
  • Seat anchor touch targets before contact.
  • Claim anchor touchstart before scrolling.
  • Move mobile images by block anchor.
  • Enlarge mobile anchor targets.
  • Keep mobile anchor drags off scroll.

  • Leave the finger to the scroller where the page is not arranged.
  • Make rapid Project switching honor the latest click.
  • Place images from the frame that painted the text.
  • Stop the glide under a thumb, and hand the speed back on release.
  • Reveal canvas after interrupted cloud recovery.
  • Retain bounded opening with hidden book matter.
  • Stop reopening recovered Act fallback.
  • Rename scene labels by double click.
  • Let a turn glide, and a run of flicks reach further.
  • Let a second flick add to the momentum it caught.
  • Let a flick carry as far as it does anywhere else on the device.
  • Give momentum an even step, and let the app own the touch scroll.
  • Let a page load hand the touch scroll to the app entirely.
  • Recover invalid acts before book reconciliation.
  • Recover timed-out working-copy restores.
  • Paint a scroll frame where the scroller is, not where it was.
  • Stabilize large project startup.
  • Carry the scroll frame's direct paint through to the surface.
  • Stop a continuous-flow Manuscript relaying out on every scroll frame.
  • Retry rich hyphen overflow before abandoning media lanes.
  • Paint rich discretionary hyphens once.
  • Preserve edits during progressive manuscript opening.
  • Enable bounded spacing and readable image wraps.
  • Play the strip when it is on screen, not when the timing ends.
  • Paint a scroll frame into the canvas the Writer is looking at.
  • Drop only the disconnected Manuscript's queued messages.
  • Let a settled refusal stand down instead of failing.
  • Bound Ruler markers and reject unusable boot caches.
  • Scroll by moving the rows the Canvas already painted.
  • Include hanging punctuation within justified spacing cap.
  • Justify a loose line to the gap it is allowed.

Tabularia updates · v0.36.0

Write on a phone: the manuscript sets to the screen you are holding, and pictures now sit in the flow of the page with the text bending around them. The Filters menu shows the whole label vocabulary a pinned scope is built from. Cloud sync says why it cannot connect instead of retrying in silence, and signing out in one tab signs out the others.

Detailed changes 34
  • Carry a sign-out across the other open tabs.
  • Tell the session why an upgrade was refused.
  • Hold the phone and the closing card to their own width.
  • Show the label vocabulary a pinned scope is built from.
  • Show the manuscript on a phone.
  • Show the text bending around a picture.
  • Publish the scale invariant where length is already the argument.
  • Make length the argument on the Google Docs page.
  • Correct the Novlr ownership claim and sharpen the Vellum one.
  • Ground the Google Docs slowdown claim in what writers report.
  • Tile the blue texture instead of stretching one square of it.
  • Pitch the articles page at the length where a text box fails.
  • Name labels, pinned scopes, phone writing and automatic sync.
  • Apply the Final Draft rewrite that silently failed, and three strays.
  • Say that pictures sit in the flow of the page.
  • Tabularia sets long-form writing, not only a book.
  • Credit Word and Docs with the outline they do have.
  • Stop conceding formatting Tabularia actually has.
  • Add an articles and blog posts page, and simplify the vertical pages.
  • Compare Tabularia with Vellum and Final Draft.
  • Compare Tabularia with Craft and Notion.
  • Split Word and Google Docs into separate comparisons.
  • Read every advertised Cloud price from the plan itself.
  • Six more comparisons, and a cadence that brings them up for review.
  • Read the phone route's scheme from the development proxy.
  • Build local OAuth URLs from the route the request used.
  • Compare Tabularia with eight writing applications.
  • Let the headline own the word it repeats fourteen times.
  • Give the editor bars their own chords and name them on the pill.
  • Keep the feature pictures against their own bottom border.
  • Replace a replayed checkpoint the cloud cannot find chunks for.
  • Add a contact page and put it in the footer.
  • Re-shoot the workspace so the page holds the frame.
  • Give Focus Mode a card of its own.

Tabularia updates · v0.35.0 · v0.34.1

Pictures now stay with the writing they belong to: a placed image keeps its slot in the flow and the hole it cuts in the text, on a phone as well as on a desktop. The Drafts panel opens with its rows already there, says when they arrived, and lets you drag one to a marked place in the list. On a phone, the panel you were last standing in opens before the Manuscript, and press labels, the page indicator and the editor toolbar follow the writing rather than the screen. A Google account can now set a password of its own, and a Project's Sheets and images reach a device that never had them.

Detailed changes 48
  • Seat images for the grid a layout is being built for.
  • Stop seating an image the layout already placed.
  • Never let a placed image lose the hole it cuts.
  • Give a placed image a slot in the flow on a phone.
  • Seat a placed image on its paragraph where the Canvas flows continuously.
  • Let Entire Series widen a compression that gave up.
  • Keep a placed image with its paragraph on a phone.
  • Report an abandoned media fixed point instead of alarming the Writer.
  • Bound a composed Chapter at its Act instead of refusing the model.
  • Keep the page shadow gutter with the placement it offsets.
  • Stop the Drafts trace claiming rows a shut panel never drew.
  • Let the Drafts panel say when its rows arrived.
  • Mark the row a drag would land beside, and round the handle.
  • Reach the passage a widening Working Scope was reading.
  • Let a Project switch defer the outgoing composition save.
  • Light Send as the recipient is typed.
  • Stand a Draft reveal's heading clear of the document header.
  • Spell out the phone page indicator and clear the menu.
  • Stop menu label rows flashing under a finger.
  • Read the Drafts panel's Blocks without the state around them.
  • Land a drag beside the row the pointer's own row belongs to.
  • Let the mobile dev route be reached by name.
  • Give the app its own touch switch, beside the browser's.
  • Mark the drop line from the pointer's own position.
  • Show the Drafts before the Manuscript has opened.
  • Re-tint the opening coil when the theme changes under it.
  • Give the row-density toggle the press label its neighbours have.
  • Keep the side-records double's mime type an encoded raster format.
  • Let a Google account add a password of its own.
  • Drag a row by its handle without the panel taking the gesture.
  • Stop the phone sidebar absorbing a short panel's slack.
  • Trust the mkcert CA root rather than the leaf it issued.
  • Carry a Project's Sheets and image records to a current device.
  • Move the Timeline view toggles into the filter band head.
  • Open the panel a phone is standing in before the Manuscript.
  • Lay out a narrowed Working Scope in Write Mode.
  • Keep the details heading class out of the module surface.
  • Mark a page-opening paragraph on the page it opens.
  • Clear the editor toolbar at the end of a Working Scope.
  • Keep the toolbar pill centred while it drops out of view.
  • Repeat a filled password into the confirmation field.
  • Lead out of a details view by its title or a swipe.
  • Follow Help & Info down when the document menu opens it.
  • Take the ring off the Writing Tools panel.
  • Keep the Project Settings focus ring off the close button.
  • Open a press label under the control that was pressed.
  • Keep the form a restored image slice was written in.
  • Stop the Text formatting trigger looking open when it is closed.

Tabularia updates · v0.33.0

Anchors are the day's biggest change: one now keeps a slot in every Draft that holds its paragraph, so it stays put through a Draft switch, travels with the paragraphs a capture takes, and arrives in a finished merge instead of being left behind in the Draft it came from. The composition lists the Anchors it is showing, an Outline node flies its name on its Anchor head, the Filters menu offers the whole label vocabulary rather than only the labels something already carries, and deleting one takes it out of the Draft you are looking at. Review gained a Change card with a comment, an author and a pin, a Markup preview whose redline is decided the way the merge decides it, and a menu that opens on a double-click while the hover toolbar keeps moving. Signing up now opens Studio: an unverified address is led through verification and on into checkout rather than turned away, a verification link stays good for a week and a dead one is reissued, a contested address is settled by the mailbox that answers it, and a Google account's picture is mirrored instead of hotlinked. Studio is quicker underneath — a Manuscript lays out in one whole-document walk instead of two, Review stops projecting over Blocks nothing changed, media chunks are stored as bytes with JSON gzipped at rest, and a Share's paragraphs live in object storage rather than in its row. The site ships decorations as WebP, artwork as AVIF and fonts as WOFF2, transcodes published pictures, and caches signed-out pages. Elsewhere: every named Sidebar row renames on the same double click, Sidebar details views stand on their own history entry so Back and Forward reach them, the phone's panels, dialogs and toolbar were repaired, and the Manuscript lock shows as a padlock alone.

Tabularia updates · v0.32.0 · v0.31.1 · v0.31.0

Screenwriting is the day's biggest change: a script leaves as Fountain and comes back as the same script, breaks its pages the way a script breaks them, and carries the marks a speech split across a page needs — so a screenplay can go out to Final Draft, Highland or Beat and return. Chapter Openings caught up with it. An Ornament can be carried into the opening band and stood in a chapter's sinkage, moved under the pointer, re-placed, pressed and deleted beside the caret, and it no longer overwrites padding you set. Every collection now ends its Drop Caps with a plain initial, 44 decorations were redrawn with transparent ink, and a decoration a release redraws keeps its old drawing on a Previous Editions shelf, so a book already using it is left alone. Studio opens differently too: a coil turns on the opening overlay until the canvas is up and then dissolves, the caret comes back where you left it, the installed app reconnects to the served Studio after a spell offline, and a boot lays the manuscript out once instead of three times.

Detailed changes 145

  • Reconnect the offline shell by reloading into the served Studio.

Tabularia updates · v0.30.1 · v0.30.0 · v0.29.0 · v0.28.0

Reviewing a merge is the day's biggest change: the panel opens before the composition it decides, a rewritten stretch reads as one Change instead of a scatter of them, the brackets hug the words they mark, and you step through the changes one at a time — with what a Change strikes and what it offers now decided separately. The Drafts around it are quicker and steadier: standing one up brings the Drafts it hangs from with it, a row travels to its passage even when the Working Scope is hiding it, a Draft's own save is written as a patch on its head, and the Markup redline comes back after a reload. Publishing settles a save still in flight before it goes out, and a reopened Sharing view knows which Draft it stands on. Elsewhere: bold now answers for the paragraph above its Block Style, imports keep EPUB pictures where the book placed them and DOCX comments with their authors, Sheets reference fields open out to what you put in them, and the site gains pages for screenwriters and non-fiction Writers, an FAQ written once for readers and for crawlers, and a homepage whose hero wraps on a wide screen and steps aside on a phone. Late in the day, two more: a device that has just downloaded your Manuscripts now records that it holds them, so signing in again opens the shelf instead of fetching every Manuscript over, and a tab left open hears about a new version within minutes rather than at its next cold start.

Detailed changes 117

Tabularia updates · v0.23.0

Draft switching is faster and more honest: a Draft stands down without rebuilding the manuscript, its visible window is composed first and re-hydrated if the switch overtook it, ownership and Markup scope are answered without walking the manuscript, a toggle answers on the click, and when the Canvas cannot show a switch the Drafts panel says so instead of failing silently. A Draft whose captured scope names paragraphs since deleted now shows again, and a stood-down Draft that owned its own paragraph recomposes cleanly. Markup paints text and styling in the same frame, strikes follow the projection their lines were composed under, and a difference keeps its edge whitespace with the words that own it. On the Published row the address tools sit beside the page, Update from Working Scope is offered there too, and the slug field opens holding the title's words. Readers can hide the band and the foot of a published page, the Ornaments highlight follows the decoration under the caret, and an update that arrives at boot activates silently while a mid-session one still asks.

Detailed changes 27
  • Pair the words of two wordings that share none by position.
  • Guard edge-whitespace absorption on the struck side only.
  • Move markup text and styling in the same painted frame.
  • Point the installed-Tabularia feature at the update controller.
  • Hold the painted scope only for a target the Writer moved.
  • Count the Blocks a Working Scope still has after an edit.
  • Keep the Ornaments highlight on the decoration under the caret.
  • Let a press beside a selected Ornament place the caret.
  • Recompose a stood-down Draft that owned its own paragraph.
  • Tell the Writer when the Canvas refuses a Draft switch.
  • Let a reader hide the band and the foot of a published page.
  • Re-hydrate the window a Draft switch overtook.
  • Paint a strike through the projection its lines were composed under.
  • Give the panel the title Studio already opened with.
  • Show a Draft whose captured scope names deleted paragraphs.
  • Read the slug's title without the Draft's prose.
  • Compose a Draft switch's visible window first.
  • Never paint the minimap from a viewport-window preview.
  • Stand a Draft down without rebuilding the manuscript.
  • Suggest the title's words in the slug field.
  • Put the address tools on the Published row and offer Update from Working Scope.
  • Answer Draft ownership and Markup scope without walking the manuscript.
  • Answer a Draft toggle on the click.
  • Hold every right-panel details view at the panel rows floor.
  • Activate a boot-time update silently and keep the dialog for mid-session updates.
  • Keep a difference's edge whitespace with the words that own it.
  • Offer the update dialog in browser tabs as well as the installed app.

Tabularia updates · v0.22.0 · v0.21.0

Draft Markup grew up today. Turn it on and the redline shows exactly how your draft differs from the draft below it — reworded passages, added and cut paragraphs, moved scenes, even formatting-only changes — and it stays right while you type, delete, paste, and undo across it. Every difference carries its own tick and cross, so you can take or leave changes one at a time without opening the full merge flow. Multi-word rewrites read as one strike beside one addition, moved paragraphs point arrows at both of their seats, and deleting a draft simply works. Underneath it all, a long-standing sync gap that could lose replaced or cut text between devices is closed.

Detailed changes 140
  • Broadcast a replacement's removal and a cut's deletion.
  • Read a multi-word replacement as one strike and one addition.
  • Map paste through the projection and re-diff what it touched.
  • Park a clicked caret at a strike's edge, never inside it.
  • Map Enter through the projection before it splits a paragraph.
  • Hold the caret in manuscript coordinates across an edit.
  • Re-diff the Draft Markup preview when history restores a model.
  • Re-diff the Draft Markup preview when formatting changes a previewed block.
  • Rank same-offset paragraph strikes by their placement.
  • Withdraw the Base-Draft tick from the left margin.
  • Delete an active draft by standing it down first.
  • Repaint the live preview before any relayout that promotes over it.
  • Keep a draft-markup relayout's promotion on the projection it painted.
  • Keep typed wording appending inside a preview addition.
  • Let one previewed formatting difference be decided.
  • Make a formatting-only Draft difference a real difference.
  • Point a moved paragraph's arrows at both of its seats.
  • Act on Draft Markup preview marks.
  • Align Draft diff words with a Myers walk instead of a quadratic table.
  • Read a selection and a deletion key through Markup before they cut.
  • Drop the base row's Markup control — Markup requires a draft above.
  • Map the caret through a zero-width strike to its one manuscript offset.
  • Lay the page out again when Draft Markup changes.
  • Repaint the Draft Markup preview after a Draft comes back.
  • Let the Draft Markup preview converge instead of dying quietly.
  • Mark a proposed paragraph move in the margin.
  • Paint a Draft's Review Changes only on the wording they were recorded against.
  • Draw a Draft row's Markup face from the live workspace.

  • Say a merge found no wording differences.
  • Carry formatting through a Draft merge.
  • Render a Draft Markup preview's pure addition exactly once.

  • Stop a stale Draft Markup preview load from poisoning the cache.
  • Re-read Draft Markup once a composition refresh settles.
  • Resolve the Draft Markup preview's merge target head live.
  • Keep a showing Draft where it is when any of its scope is on screen.
  • Add dev-only sign-in route for agents.
  • Clear the wall-clock ceiling's escalation timer and tolerate a gone process group.
  • Sweep stale vitest runners and cap test tasks with a wall-clock ceiling.
  • Fill missing goal statistics when reading a stored writing-statistics setup.
  • Keep a decoration hittable when the layout recorded no top.
  • Follow the ink picker onto the decoration and into the swatch.

  • Open Decorations on Ornaments and remember the chosen tab.
  • Grey the Markup control on a Draft that is not showing.
  • Measure the Paragraph above an Ornament on the presentation surface.
  • Insert a Divider above the selection instead of replacing it.
  • Keep structural edits off a previewed paragraph's record.
  • Make the Decoration ink swatch a square that shows the real ink.
  • Flip a Draft row to Merge as the Writer types.

Tabularia updates · v0.20.0 · v0.19.0 · v0.18.0

The Outline now has its own Sidebar tab, with a row density toggle and rows that no longer repaint or re-walk the manuscript for nothing. Published pages are served one chapter at a time with an unbroken scroll, and a page is now stored and updated chapter by chapter, so an edit uploads only the chapters it touched and Update Automatically checks a save without re-laying out the whole book. A Draft branched from another publishes with its root Draft's title page, so a renamed book reaches every page published from it. The title page byline is its own editable line, Book Matter pages can be dragged within their region and have a settings gear, every Draft row has a Sharing button, and the published document ceiling rises to 32 MiB.

Detailed changes 117

  • Stop re-projecting a followed Draft on every save.
  • Remember how the Sharing view was left.
  • Compare Draft scopes by their paragraphs, not their source id.
  • Name a pinned Draft scope for what it was cut from.

Tabularia updates · v0.16.0

Drafts are captured compositions now: a Draft records the passage as it read when you made it and the Draft it hangs from, so it never changes its mind about what it branched from. Every project has a project-wide Draft named after the project, and standing two Drafts of the same passage up together shows both wordings in place on the canvas, each one editable. Captures and merges that would quietly drop a branch are refused rather than guessed at. Elsewhere: page numbers stay right whatever the Working Scope, a scroll no longer repaginates the document under you, an arranged image sits on its anchor instead of jumping when it loads, the Sidebar Outline answers for its own rows, and the Filters band gains a Book Matter switch beside the pin. The day also includes 81 more improvements and fixes.

Detailed changes 84
  • Drop draft modules the merge left orphaned.
  • Let an Act or Scene keep a heading it actually has.
  • Refuse a capture that would lose or straddle a branch.
  • Let a Manuscript selection win over the copy caret.
  • Seed the scope-compression gallery's Manuscript.
  • Say what a Manuscript without Book structure now keeps.

Tabularia updates · v0.15.0 · v0.14.0

Images now stay under the pointer while the Canvas scrolls, wrap text against the page where each image is painted, and keep their page-bound position through drag and print. The minimap seats those images, running heads, and running feet on the same pages as the Canvas. Book Matter pages reconcile after the full Manuscript loads, and empty or unticked seeded pages can be removed reliably. Draft rows use the same stack numbers as the Canvas margin, while the document context menu now separates Formatting from Block Margins.

  • Split the document context menu into Formatting and Block Margins.
  • Reconcile Book Matter once the whole Manuscript is loaded.

August 24, 2026

Tabularia updates · v0.13.0

A Block Quote is a block of its own now — set it, copy it, paste it, import it, and publish it as what you wrote. You name the words in a published page's address, and a switch says whether the page is live; a release carries its pictures and its structure, and a reader keeps their own address through a rename. In the Outline a Scene can become a Chapter and back, a Chapter's plus adds the Scene it contains, and every Chapter shows its own. Scene labels open empty rather than offering examples you did not write, the label filter survives a reload, and a reload opens on a warm layout cache.

Detailed changes 36
  • Keep the Timeline label filter across a reload.
  • Hold a release to what it promises.
  • Open Scene labels with an empty vocabulary.
  • Say whether a page is live with a switch, not a pair of buttons.
  • Persist the balanced layout cache so a reload opens warm.
  • Let a release carry its pictures.
  • Bring four page dates back up to their last content change.
  • Keep a page's file links on the reader's own address.
  • Send a release as structured content, not only prose.
  • Hold the published page section still while it changes state.
  • Store a page's words under the Draft they came from.
  • Let a Writer set a Block Quote.
  • Decorate the shell before the panels, not after them.
  • Give the autosave dot's tooltip a readable surface.
  • Stop the template part scan running past its own call.
  • Make pinning a scope select it.
  • Ask for a published page's own faces with its markup.
  • Head the filter band on a Custom Timeline with no labels.
  • Let every Scene become a Chapter, and the first Chapter a Scene.
  • Lead the published page section with its actions.
  • Keep a renamed page's reader on their own address.
  • Keep text inserted into a title page inside the title page.
  • Name the Draft once, above the Sharing view's sections.
  • Carry Block Quotes through copy, paste, and import.
  • Make a Block Quote a real block kind.
  • Put the publishing commitments in the terms, and show a reader's address.
  • Ask the delete question in a dialog of its own.

  • Let a Writer name the words in a page's address.

  • Drop the contents-list switch from Page options.
  • Insert into a Chapter as a Scene, and let an Outline item change type.
  • Let a Chapter row's plus add the Scene it contains.
  • Give Anchor Settings the Project Settings shape.

Tabularia updates · v0.12.2 · v0.12.1 · v0.12.0

Drop Caps and Dividers go where you put them, and publish as the Canvas drew them. A published page now offers its readers the files behind it, a code it keeps, and the choice of reading it as pages or as one flow — and a page you take down stops costing storage. A frozen Draft can be read and selected, and editing one offers a successor to carry on in rather than forking silently behind you. In the Timeline Drawer a cluster zooms open into the stack it stands for, each Outline level takes a row of its own, and moving one paragraph no longer relays out the whole Manuscript. Later in the day: the Sharing list loads again, a rename no longer shifts the page under you, and a Book folder imported with summaries beside its Chapter folders keeps its Chapters instead of flattening them.

Detailed changes 69
  • Nest a Book folder's chapters when it also keeps loose files.
  • Give the row-alignment gallery the rename field's own reset.
  • Stop an Outline rename scrolling the Manuscript to the caret.
  • Re-read the Project's Timelines when the tab is opened.
  • Open an inline rename where the name already sat.
  • Let the performance contract fold away in production.
  • Keep the performance contract out of production.
  • Route every API the Worker answers, not three of six.
  • Read the Stripe business name without case.
  • Keep a click on a menu apart from a click outside every menu.
  • Clear the release gates, and open a menu the spec means to open.
  • Date webhook evidence against the secret that produced it.
  • Show a restyled Divider now, and stop the page jumping to the caret.
  • Publish a Drop Cap where the Writer put it, and stop indenting the line it opens.
  • Reopen the minimap at the width it was closed from.
  • Stop a Project rename discarding the Manuscript beneath it.
  • Keep the Manuscript's own title page in the flow.
  • Keep the Writer's place through a zoom change.
  • Let a drop seat an initial at the head of its Paragraph again.
  • Stop an exact relayout walking the whole document.
  • Read the Drawer's zoom as magnification.
  • Give a locked page the same address as an open one.
  • Let only an Editor's Studio hold a shared review Draft.
  • Let a Drop Cap be lifted off its line without the Paragraph above claiming it.
  • Keep the painted fixture's page index while its prose parts for an initial.
  • Keep a Share's continuation among the Writer's own Drafts.
  • Let a Drop Cap be placed freely, and publish the one the Canvas drew.
  • Drag the Plain rule, and replace every Divider in one action.
  • Open a Chapter after the title page, not on it.
  • Give a published page a code it keeps and words that follow the title.
  • Reorder a Draft row's nine commands.
  • Put the lock beside the locked-Draft dialog's title.
  • Let a reader lay a published page out as pages or as one flow.
  • Zoom a cluster by what stops it, not by a share of the Manuscript.
  • Carry a printed image over the fold instead of up the page.
  • Let the heading say what the running-head menu sets.
  • Let a cluster's list wait to see whether one click is two.
  • Let each Outline block decide what it can say.
  • Stop paying to store an unpublished page.
  • Let the locked-Draft offer be left rather than answered.
  • Put the level on the Outline block, and the right title with it.
  • Offer a published page's files to its readers.
  • Keep source files greppable, and refuse literal control characters.
  • Bound how many Guests an Organization may hold at once.
  • Zoom deep enough to part a cluster, and stop its list catching the second click.
  • Let a locked Draft be selected and read.
  • Benchmark long-document layout against ADR 0012's flat-window claim.
  • Settle a printed image against the prose its own band moved.
  • Let a cluster zoom open the stack it stands for.
  • Say so in development when a Book Decoration identifier is gone.
  • Give each Outline level a row of its own.
  • Keep the row's Publish command live on a Draft with no page.
  • Refuse an edit into a locked Draft and offer one to continue in.
  • Make a published page's files when the Writer publishes.
  • Store and serve a published page's PDF and EPUB.
  • Refuse to turn a page index into a page number.
  • Complete the Structure ladder drag merge.
  • Cite the page a Book gives it, in publish and in PDF.
  • Stop the sync indicator claiming saved while a save is in flight.
  • Keep a Draft row's controls in place and spend the ones it cannot run.
  • Show the caret, Anchor, and scope pages as their Book has them.
  • Let a Writer drag the Structure ladder's depth.
  • Fit the widest mark in the gutter, and zoom a cluster on a double click.
  • Number Outline and Anchor markers the way the page does.
  • Drop the scope-override summary line from the Drafts panel heading.
  • Let the marquee start in the gutter, and frame what it caught.
  • Keep a clicked Draft row selected when its scope skips the first Block.
  • Say a Draft is locked in words, and stop dimming what still works.
  • Ask for the Stripe cutover confirmation once, not every release.

Tabularia updates · v0.11.0

Publishing arrives: a Draft becomes a web page at an address you claim, set the way your Manuscript is set, with your own title page, running heads, and pictures — open to readers or reachable only by a private link. Readers get the contents within reach, the page in their own appearance, and a way to report one. The Timeline Drawer gains Anchor clusters, a Structure ladder in place of five menus, one filter band across both Timeline kinds, and a Visual Identity for every Anchor. Print and PDF now sit on the leading and baselines the Canvas actually uses, and switching Drafts costs one storage round trip instead of five.

Detailed changes 143
  • Clear the two Astro type errors blocking the release build.
  • Record where an image sits beside its anchor when the view cannot measure a page.
  • Give every lane track a gutter to draw its ends into.
  • Let a hover stay a tooltip, and keep the pinned card off the header.
  • Ship a chunk that has no original source, and clear the release gates.
  • Make the Drawer's Structure menu a ladder.
  • Write the opening line's rule beside the overlay, not inside it.
  • Slide the minimap past a drawn rail too.
  • Hand a page control back through the lock, not around it.
  • Give the cluster list a dialog, a divider, and Anchor identities.
  • Hold a locked Draft's page still until it is unlocked.
  • Centre the Outline strip when no band is drawn.
  • Draw the ladder's depth as a rail rather than a line.
  • Give each Timeline one pin, and name what it pinned.
  • Let the opening status keep its namespace, and say so.
  • Point every glyph in a Drawer cluster at the moment it marks.
  • Stop a button press from selecting its own label.
  • Set the print from the leading the Canvas is set to.
  • Prototype the Structure menu as a ladder.
  • Sit an Outline block flush against the start of its lane.
  • Slide the minimap past a shut Sharing panel rather than padding it.
  • Keep a placed image beside its paragraph under a narrowed Working Scope.
  • Keep the minimap picture one width across a Sharing panel toggle.
  • Offer one whole-manuscript Fit target for a single-Book manuscript.
  • Give the layout comparison its own Canvas door.
  • Put the fixed-name explanation in the heading's own tooltip.
  • Walk the Playhead along the story axis.
  • Give review rows the stack's shape.
  • Say that an Outline or Timeline row opens a panel.
  • Give a reader Studio's own appearance panel.
  • Measure the Drawer axis across the story alone.
  • Hold the opening line, then name the Manuscript.
  • Give Anchor Insert Mode back its own styles.
  • Make the Drawer's density toggle a real change of lane height.
  • Let a page served from a handle host read itself.
  • Name the signed-in address on the header Account row.
  • Show a published page at the address a reader is given.
  • Dress Studio's open failures as the plan-load card.
  • Publish the margins the Writer moved.
  • End a Chapter on the page it actually reaches.
  • Allow the Google account picture under the image policy.
  • Draw the page options with the app's own controls.
  • Send the manuscript to an Anchor picked from a cluster.
  • Publish the Draft the Sharing panel was opened for.
  • Let a published page follow the Draft it came from.
  • Let a Chapter's hover reveal only its own create control.
  • Seat painted lines on the leading the page actually has.
  • Draw one layout twice and measure the gap.
  • Avoid blue ICO favicon fallback.
  • Let a Writer change the name until a page is published.
  • Put the baseline back where the Canvas puts it, measured.
  • Take the label vocabulary from whichever Anchor is carrying it.
  • Let a Writer claim the name their pages publish under.
  • Set a line from the Canvas's own top, not from its baseline.
  • Put each line's baseline where the Canvas put it.
  • Let a Writer ask for the handle they publish under.
  • Show every Studio open-failure state in the Dev Gallery.
  • Fold the published page into the Sharing view.
  • Let unchecking the last label clear the Outline item.
  • Lay a print out in the Manuscript's own typography.

  • Serve a published page under its Writer's handle.
  • Restore the compact mark's third page.
  • Keep every Draft switch on the changed-paragraph path.
  • Spend one storage round trip on a Draft switch, not five.
  • Time a Draft switch step by step on the timeline.
  • Publish the Manuscript's own pages, lines and pictures alike.
  • Name a pinned Outline filter after the filters that make it.
  • Give each Writer a handle to publish under.
  • Put the Draft composition refresh on the performance timeline.
  • Switch Drafts by sharing their stored revisions.
  • Give the Visual Identity the editor's color palettes.
  • Reconcile Book sections from their checkboxes.

  • Measure the menu panel against what clips it.
  • Write a Markdown export's pictures beside it rather than inside it.

Tabularia updates · v0.10.0

Printing and PDF now set the page from the Canvas itself: the manuscript paginates for print rather than photographing the screen, with running heads, running feet, page numbers, list markers, hanging punctuation, the hyphens the layout chose, and each image on the page it belongs to. You can publish a draft — whole manuscript or a scope of it — as a hosted web page, update it as the draft changes, and lock it behind a private link when it is not for everyone. The Outline gained bulk work: assign labels or delete anchors from the bar's own controls, with levels the manuscript holds none of greyed out. Every Anchor now carries a Visual Identity of its own, and cloud hydration no longer renames a project back over a rename you just made.

Detailed changes 94
  • Find the Astro manifest wherever the build emits it.
  • Give every Anchor a Visual Identity of its own.
  • Stop the fill blinking when an icon button is pressed.
  • Finish the Save-to-Done pass across the autosaving surfaces.
  • Make every step of the artwork zoom take something.

Tabularia updates · v0.9.0 · v0.8.1

Images now belong in a manuscript end to end: place one beside a paragraph, keep its hole in the text across a reload, and see it land in the right place in every export, with an allowance that belongs to the account rather than to one manuscript. Printing sets the page with the Canvas's own layout, letter spacing follows the paragraph the ruler is pointing at, and upgrading to Cloud starts checkout again for an account whose billing record had gone stale.

Detailed changes 19
  • Stop reserving the minimap handle twice when text wraps.
  • Spend the contract browser runs only where a browser can tell.
  • Reset letter spacing for the document, not one paragraph.
  • Letter-space the caret's paragraph, not the whole document.
  • Keep a placed image's hole in the text across a reload.
  • Make the agent gate pay for the surface a change touched.
  • Name the docs a release may have made untrue.
  • Set the printed page with the Canvas's own layout.
  • Make the image allowance belong to the account.
  • Cache the UI fonts immutably so the browser stops re-fetching them.
  • Start checkout again after a deleted Stripe customer.
  • Compress an image to fit, and enforce the allowance server-side.
  • Let the engine space justified text, and stop repainting text a drag has not moved.
  • Cap manuscript media, explain a scope it cannot resolve.
  • Show a title in the title field, or nothing at all.
  • Keep a scoped export to the content the scope names.
  • Answer the print shortcut anywhere in Studio.
  • Scale an upload to book size, and pick the Word format by loss.
  • Let a developer-facing push reach main without a release day.

Tabularia updates · v0.6.0

Account management grows up: Taking a break now pauses billing rather than closing the account, closure is confirmed by email and completed on its own route, and sensitive changes explain why they ask you to sign in again. Studio keeps your place more reliably — the caret survives chrome clicks, panel closes, and page-format dialogs, the phone header names the page you are on, focus mode is remembered, and Working Scope switches in a single frame. Studio also opens faster, and new workspaces start on Silver Paper and Graphite.

Detailed changes 35

  • Regenerate the app Worker types for the Cloud Sync binding.
  • Seat the phone page number beside the document menu.
  • Name the page a phone writer is on in the header.
  • Warm the modules a Studio page actually imports.
  • Remember focus mode and close the rail it leaves behind.
  • Erase only the deleted account's local Studio data.
  • Delete the task branch when its work lands.
  • Switch the Working Scope in one frame and land a one-page scope at its top.
  • Leave the Writer's page alone when document fonts load.

  • Simplify the check-email and verify-email copy.
  • Keep the document menu reachable and hide phone statistics.

Safer updates, Review, and large Manuscripts · v0.1.0

Tabularia became safer to update, use offline, and trust with large Manuscripts. This day introduced release-aware app updates, paragraph-scoped Review, resilient image uploads, bounded large-Manuscript startup and synchronization, stronger local recovery, and a higher Free word limit.

Detailed changes 25
  • Review what changed from the in-app update notice before choosing whether to update now or later.
  • Require a new release-notes entry before a live production deployment can begin.
  • Require an explicit release-email decision while keeping every campaign behind a separate preview and approval.
  • Upload PNG, JPEG, WebP, or AVIF images even when the browser cannot encode AVIF, using a verified WebP or PNG fallback instead.
  • Keep manuscript and image rows visually stable while cloud-upload progress changes.
  • Preserve the image's actual encoded format through local storage, cloud sync, and restore.
  • Type into a blank Markup paragraph immediately after creating it, with the new text rendered as an Addition.
  • Backspace normally through an Addition without moving the caret to the wrong edge of the change.
  • Preserve paragraph-scoped Additions when splitting paragraphs and keep structural Review changes out of ordinary text input.
  • Recover cleanly when another browser tab signs the account out.
  • Open very large manuscripts through a bounded first-paint path while complete layout and storage hydration continue safely.
  • Keep typing, minimap navigation, ruler scrolling, and panel resizing responsive deep into a long manuscript.
  • Keep manuscript word counts and Find results current as the working draft changes.
  • Protect generated Outline Anchors while keeping ordinary Anchors available for the Writer to move or delete.
  • Synchronize oversized working-copy revisions in bounded chunks instead of exceeding cloud operation limits.
  • Reopen manuscripts already stored on this device, write offline, save locally, and export a Project archive without caching private Studio pages.
  • Pause cloud synchronization until the returning app and server confirm storage and sync compatibility.
